What is a fiber laser source?

A fiber laser source produces its beam by pumping light through a doped optical fiber, amplifying it into a high-intensity, single-wavelength beam at around 1064 nm. That beam is carried to the cutting head or welding gun through an armored fiber cable. Compared with older CO₂ lasers, fiber sources turn far more electrical input into usable beam power, run with very little maintenance and hold a stable beam over long shifts - which is why almost all new metal cutting and welding machines sold in India are now fiber-based.

Cutting source vs welding source: which do you need?

They are not interchangeable. A cutting source is built for continuous, high-power output to pierce and cut sheet and plate - the higher the wattage, the thicker the material and the faster the cut. A welding source runs at lower power with beam control suited to fusing joints cleanly, and it's what pairs with a handheld laser welding gun. How much power do you need?

Output power is the single biggest factor in both price and capability. As an approximate guide for mild steel:
